Olivia Shields Biggerstaff

Olivia Shields Biggerstaff, 89, died at her home on Church Street in Jackson on Wednesday, October 3, 2018.

Mrs. Biggerstaff was born in Halifax County, NC on July 4, 1929, to the late Mary Eliza Lamb White. She was a school teacher, having taught for 30 years, and retired from Chaloner Middle School, Roanoke Rapids. She, also, attended and played the piano and organ for both, Grace Episcopal Church in Weldon, NC, and St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Halifax, NC. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Biggerstaff was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Biggerstaff, and son, Lee Biggerstaff.

Surviving is her daughters, Shiela Biggerstaff and Nancy McCaskey; son, Chris Biggerstaff and wife, Sheryl; grandchildren, Josh Askew and wife, Alison, Shelley Askew, Greg Biggerstaff and wife, Wendy, Audrey Pate and husband, Bryan, Casey Clubb and husband, Brett, Brian Biggerstaff and Jessica. Also, surviving is 23 great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Friday, October 5, 2018, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Askew Funeral Service - Jackson Chapel, Jackson, NC, and all other times at the home, 709 N. Church St., Jackson, NC. The Reverend Ben Duffey will conduct a funeral service at (New) Trinity Episcopal Church, 1305 Main St., Scotland Neck, NC, on Saturday, October 6, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. with interment to follow in the (Old) Trinity Episcopal Church Cemetery.
